Is chiropractic care safe during pregnancy?
Yes, with the technique adapted throughout. Positioning changes as pregnancy progresses so no pressure is placed on the abdomen, the force used is reduced, and treatment focuses on the lower back, pelvis and hips where the strain concentrates. We work alongside your obstetrician or midwife, not in place of them.
Pregnancy changes the mechanics of the spine substantially and quickly. As the baby grows, the center of gravity shifts forward, the curve of the lower back deepens to compensate, and the hormone relaxin loosens the ligaments of the pelvis in preparation for birth. That combination of greater load, altered posture, and more mobile joints is why lower back and pelvic pain are so common in the second and third trimesters.
At our Dearborn practice, prenatal care is adapted throughout. Positioning changes as pregnancy progresses so no pressure is placed on the abdomen, techniques are gentler, and the focus is on the pelvis, lower back and hips where the strain concentrates. Many patients find that regular care through pregnancy makes a meaningful difference to their comfort, sleep and ability to stay active.
We do not make claims about chiropractic care influencing labor or delivery outcomes. What we treat is musculoskeletal pain during pregnancy, and that is what we discuss. We work alongside your obstetrician or midwife rather than in place of them, and if anything falls outside our scope we will say so and refer.
Pediatric care is likewise adapted rather than scaled down. Children are not small adults. Their joints are more mobile, their tissue more resilient, and the force required is a small fraction of adult treatment, often no more than the pressure you would use to test a ripe tomato. Much of what we see in children is postural: heavy backpacks worn on one shoulder, hours hunched over a screen, or sports where one side of the body does all the work.
A good deal of pediatric care is education, directed as much at parents as at the child. How a backpack should be loaded and worn, how a desk should be set up for a growing body, and when a complaint warrants attention rather than waiting it out are all conversations worth having early, while habits are still forming.

Common questions
Why does pregnancy cause back and pelvic pain?
The center of gravity shifts forward as the baby grows, the curve of the lower back deepens to compensate, and relaxin loosens the ligaments of the pelvis. Greater load, altered posture and more mobile joints together explain why pain is so common in the later trimesters.

Does chiropractic care make labor easier?
We make no claims about influencing labor or delivery outcomes. What we treat is musculoskeletal pain during pregnancy, and that is what we discuss with you.
